Below I have provided a collection of free burnt paper textures. These textures are all graphically created and are very realistic. All of the texture are free to download. To download simply click the texture you want and right click on the image and select 'Save as'.

In this tutorial you will learn how to create a rocky texture in Photoshop. A rocky texture is basically a texture which look rock/stone.This process requires using the stylize and the render filters.

Rocky texture

Step 1

Open a new Photoshop documents with the 640 x 480 dimensions.
Then reset the palette by pressing the ‘D’ key.

Step 2

Select Filter > Render > Difference Clouds. Then repeat the filter again by selecting Ctrl + F and you should get the following image below:




Step 3

Select Filter > Stylize > Find edges and you should get the following effect.

Select Image > Adjustment > Levels and drag the left most slider to the right until it looked like below:



You should now have rocky texture effect.

In this tutorial you will learn how to change the eye colour in three simple steps. This process requires using the hue/saturation tools to change the colour of the eye.

Change eye colour

Step 1

Open an image of an eye in Photoshop.




Step 2

Make a selection around the eye using the lasso tool. You can alternatively use the quick mask tool if you find it easier.




Step 3

Select Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation and adjust the sliders to your liking. I have selected the following for my image.

• Hue = 144
• Saturation = 47
• Lightness = 8

You should now have an image with a different coloured eye.

In this tutorial you will learn how to create a metal texture effect. You will need to use various filters for this texture effect.

Metal texture effect

Step 1

Open a Photoshop document with 640 x 480 dimensions.
Choose a grey foreground colour then select the paint bucket fill the canvas with your colour. I have used #787878 colour for my metal texture.




Step 2

Add some noise to the canvas by selecting Filter > Noise > Add Noise and add the following settings.

• Amount = 17%
• Distrubution = Uniform
• Monochromatic = Checked

You should get the following:




Step 3

Select Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and add the following settings.

• Angle = 57
• Distance = 15 pixels

You should now have a metal texture effect. If you don’t like the brightness of your texture you can adjust it by selecting Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation and adjust the lightness slider.

In this tutorial you will learn how to create an image canvas effect in Photoshop. This gives the effect as if the image was painted on canvas. The process requires the glass and texterizer filters

Image canvas effect

Step 1

Open an image in Photoshop. I have used a free stock image of a fish which is available from www.sxc.hu




Step 2

Select Filter > Distort > Glass and add the following settings below:

• Distortion = 1
• Smoothness = 3
• Texture = Canvas
• Scaling = 80%

You should get a similar image below. Notice there is a slight distortion in the image.


Step 3

Select Filter > Texture > Texterizer and then add the following settings. You can experiment with the various settings if you wish.

• Texture = Canvas
• Scaling = 68%
• Relief = 6
• Light = Top right

You should now have a nice canvas texture on your image.
